Prayers are universal.
Whispered, shouted, sung.
Words of praise. Words of gratitude. Words of awe.
Prayers carry a unique power and resonance;
They vibrate on a frequency tuned to the Divine.
This series of paintings incorporates prayers I learned as a child, attending synagogue and Hebrew school, as well as ones I have newly discovered, such as the prayer said upon seeing a rainbow, and the prayer for the new moon. Along my spiritual path I have also come to love Sanskrit mantras, and feel the compatibility of these two ancient languages, Sanskrit and Hebrew, whose very syllables convey a powerful, positive energy into this world.
I found as I wrote these prayers into and onto my paintings that portions of the text would disappear. It was almost as if the words were being absorbed by the art, much the way these prayers have been absorbed into my heart.
These prayer paintings are my heart offering. May they find resonance with the Divine rhythm that beats within every one.
